WHAT YOU MUST DO TO BE HEALTHY THIS 2018 –PART 1


It has been a universal culture to begin every New Year with some fantastic resolutions but, regrettably most of these resolutions do not become actualized as anticipated. Perhaps you started year 2018 with so much hope and strong believe that this particular year will be better than the previous years and you had resolved to do all within your ability to make it so.

While I wish you well in your journey this year it is very expedient to remind you that, your health condition in this New Year is one very key factor that will significantly determine whether or not you will be able to actualize your lofty resolutions or not, all things being equal. Like the economists will say.

In recent times, it has been observed that chronic or terminal diseases like stroke, cancer, diabetes, high BP, hepatitis, arthritis, etc have become major setbacks stopping many people from achieving their dreams in life. As you are reading this, I am sure that you may know somebody who is either suffering or had died from any of the above named diseases.

It is even rather unfortunate that so many people today are already living in the New Year with high risks of health challenges, yet, they are ignorant about it. Today, I wish to remind you that being healthy is not something that happens to us through acts of luck or by chance. There are certain things you must do to be healthy all through this year.

REST: According to Tony Akinyemi1, “our body has a self–healing mechanism in place that, if well activated and supported, can self-repair. All we have to do is to stop the abuse and start providing the support needed for the body to heal itself”. Adequate rest is one of the ways of activating our body’s self-healing mechanisms. It helps our body to restore itself properly.

Rest is also helpful in reducing stress and anxiety. It is just a pity that so many people do not have time to rest. Ordinarily, when we take adequate rest, we help our body to be free from the stressful situation and this allows the body to calm down and regain lost energy.

Rest is also important for rebuilding the cells. It is only when our body is in a complete state of rest that the process of cell repairs can take place.  Adequate sleep is extremely important therefore for healthy body.

EXERCISE: Our body is built upon a structure of muscles and joints which enables it to engage in certain movements with ease and strength. We are made to walk, run, and jump, as well as to pick up objects.  When we exercise, we allow our bodies to maintain these natural activities and movements. Many of us today have unconsciously become sedentary and this is negatively affecting our health. Make physical exercise and fitness a priority this year.

DIET: Consumption of healthy diet not only prevents different forms of malnutrition, but also significantly minimizes the risk of onset of a complete range of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs). Even though the precise component of a healthy diet is quite variable and is determined by multiple determinants (viz., age, gender, lifestyle practices, physical activity, sociocultural practices, locally available foods), various nutrition guides are published regularly by medical and governmental institutions to educate individuals on what they should be eating to be healthy.

We know that rest, exercise and diet are very essential for good health, however, the ability of our bodies to benefit maximally from all these depend on the presence of a particular compound in our body called glutathione. According to medical experts, apart from food water and oxygen, the next essential compound that you need to be healthy is glutathione.

Medical scientists call GLUTATHIONE the ultimate cell protector and the mother of all antioxidants. Without glutathione, our cells will not be able to carry out their metabolic functions.
